Epithalon

Epithalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) is a synthetic tetrapeptide developed by the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology that structurally corresponds to a fragment of the pineal gland peptide epitalamin ¹. Molecular formula: C₁₄H₂₂N₄O₉. Molecular weight: 390.35 g/mol.

In-vitro studies using human somatic cell cultures have examined Epithalon's effects on telomerase (TERT) activity and telomere length maintenance under oxidative stress conditions ². Gene expression analyses have characterized its influence on the p53/p21 senescence pathway and on melatonin synthesis-related transcription factors in pinealocyte models ³. Electrochemiluminescence assays have quantified its effects on reactive oxygen species generation in aged cell models.
